About the Royal Children

Two Trilinea Princesses

Public Acknowledgement

While King Ravych takes precautions such as raising elite children communally within the royal court that are similar to those in the Rioran Empire, he takes the unusual step of acknowledging them as his children when they reach maturity. While this reduces assassinations by senior generals after the acknowledgement, since there’s no way they can claim ignorance, it increases the often successful attempts in childhood and young adulthood. As a result, children are often born without an explicit purpose as backups for those who do have one.

As royal children enter their teen years, King Ravych will often reveal their identity to select senior generals who will act as protectors and prevent attacks from other senior generals. This seems to have a highly beneficial effect, but there have been incidents over the centuries when the chosen senior generals have themselves assassinated the newly revealed royal child. Documented cases of a senior general knowingly assassinating a royal child are treated seriously by King Ravych, and several senior generals have been executed for continued attempts, whether successful or not.

Immortality and Status

Three Senior Generals plan military actions

For centuries, royal children had their immortality unlocked after they proved their potential to serve in the long run. Within the last century, however, King Ravych has started unlocking his children’s immortality shortly prior to acknowledgement. This ensures survival against any assassination attempts in adulthood, as opposed to the prior method where acknowledged children without immortality were often targeted.

The status increase as a result of unlocked immortality is often compounded by the newly acknowledged child’s promotions in the military ranks. All of King Ravych’s senior generals appear to be royal children, raising speculation that the same is true for King Tyristore. Any such preference, if true, is unacknowledged in the Rioran Empire. While King Ravych is believed to have nearly a dozen living children and even a few living grandchildren, only two of King Tyristore’s children are known to be alive, though many of the children believed to be dead have not had those deaths conclusively proven.

Challenges for the Throne

Every century or two, one of King Ravych’s children will challenge him to a duel for the throne of the Trilinea Empire. Over time, extremely strict rules have developed to ensure a fair fight. All other living acknowledged children serve as witnesses and enforcers of those rules, favoring neither side in that enforcement.

In addition, at several points in the Empire’s history, King Tyristore of the Rioran Empire has challenged King Ravych. The same strict rules apply to their duels, which last until both sides acknowledge a tie. For these duels, Trilinea’s side is represented by King Ravych’s children, who again serve as impartial enforcers of the rules, as well as an equal number of representatives from the Rioran Empire, who are equally impartial.

While the representatives from the Rioran Empire are classified only as senior generals, Trilinean Protectors suspect that these are King Tyristore’s children. Confirmation of these suspicions has not yet been forthcoming.

Select Acknowledged Children

Name: Darion

Status: Living

Birthplace: Xenol

Birthdate: 6.1.503

Purpose: undetermined

Publicly Acknowledged: 1.5.524

Notes: Born primarily to be a childhood companion to his twin sister Jexica, he has yet to be assigned a purpose by King Ravych. He and Jexica have an extremely close relationship, and as children, before their identities were public, he shielded her from an assassination attempt and received a scar on his left arm in her defense. He currently assists in military efforts across multiple planets in the Trilinea Empire.

Name: Jexica

Status: Living

Birthplace: Xenol

Birthdate: 6.1.503

Publicly Acknowledged: 1.5.524

Purpose: to have a child with the Prince of Helata, Jerenil [SUCCESS]

Notes: Born along with a twin brother, she had a more balanced childhood than many of King Ravych’s children thanks to the constant companionship of another royal child. After an assassination attempt in childhood that was only stopped by her twin Darion, King Ravych moved both of them to [REDACTED] until she left to complete her purpose. She and her child now live on Helata after the passing of her husband due to unknown assailants.

Name: Layleth

Status: Living

Birthplace: Frezan

Birthdate: 25.6.516

Publicly Acknowledged: 23.4.534

Purpose: to have a child with the High Priest of Yresmi, Tarex [SUCCESS]

Notes: Very close to her younger brother growing up, she appeared to be one of the more mischievous royal children. Upon her engagement to High Priest Tarex and the unlocking of her immortality, she was publicly acknowledged. Almost immediately, her young brother’s identity was exposed and he was assassinated. She blames herself for his death and while she performs her roles as wife and mother suitably, reports indicate she is still grieving.

Name: Riktar

Status: Living

Birthplace: Ershvin

Birthdate: 30.6.429

Publicly Acknowledged: 13.8.437

Purpose: to have a child with the Princess of Kathos, Deliza [SUCCESS]

Notes: The last child to have his immortality unlocked only upon proving his usefulness, he escaped an attack by unknown assailants that resulted in the deaths of his wife and child before rejoining King Ravych as a general in the military. He worked through the ranks and only had his immortality unlocked upon reaching the rank of senior general. He is confirmed to have assassinated four elites. It is unknown if any of them were royal children.

Confirmed Unacknowledged Children

Name: [REDACTED]

Status: Deceased

Birthplace: Kraxi

Birthdate: 5.11.480

Date of Death: 6.12.496

Purpose: to have a child with the Prince of Xhindara, Thrazen [FAILURE]

Death: killed in an attack by unknown assailants targeting her mother

Notes: While her identity has never been formally acknowledged, evidence points to her royal heritage conclusively. After keeping such a low profile that no known documents on her exist for her entire life, she was believed to be visiting her mother when a bombing at the palace killed a dozen elites, including the King’s wife. After her death, while investigating the deceased, information was uncovered that led Protectors to conclude that she was a royal child.

Name: [REDACTED]

Status: Deceased

Birthplace: Frezan

Birthdate: 29.9.518

Date of Death: 25.4.534

Purpose: undetermined

Death: identity exposed when his older sister was publicly announced, assassinated by a senior general

Notes: Raised alongside his older sister, he was observed to be one of the most well-balanced of King Ravych’s children, with a pleasant demeanor and reported good sense of humor. His closeness to his sister was noted by observers of the court. When King Ravych announced that his sister was a royal child, newly engaged and with immortality unlocked, observers quickly identified him as another royal child. Two days later, an undisclosed senior general assassinated him.

Name: [REDACTED]

Status: Living
A closeup of a young Trilinea prince

Birthplace: Helata

Birthdate: 26.4.525

Purpose: to have a child with the youngest Princess of Taretz, Serphen [UNDETERMINED]

Notes: Despite being King Ravych’s grandchild and not a direct royal child, he is counted among the royal children because of the precautions taken with his identity. Jaxica, his mother, remains on Helata, presumably to be close to him. While we have confirmed his identity, it is not known to the greater population. Security remains a priority until he comes of age and is acknowledged despite having the protection of his mother and his uncle Darion, his mother’s twin.
